Art therapy is based on this paradox :
Supposedly escaping via the artistic expression, symbolism and fiction, in order to better be in touch with one's truth... Thanks to spontaneous expression, those feelings which are faint, blurred or buried, may emerge and become clearer. This promotes better health by avoiding the accumulation of repressed feelings and its dangerous consequences (OCD, somatic diseases, obsessions and other "neurotic leakage" manifestations). Becoming more aware of who one is and what one feels and wants, increases one's ability to make informed choices (rather than resorting to automatic responses). This may enhance the chances of a freer life based on real decisions... |
